Menopausal syndrome


Menopausal syndrome includes symptoms assosiated with physiological changes that take place in a woman's body as period of fertility ends. Menopause is a normal consequence of the ageing process and is a natural female harmone deficient state which occurs at the age of 45-55.
           
      In this stage, ovary gradually become less active and reduce their production of sex harmone ( estrogen and progestrone).
            
        Some women experience mild problems or none at all but some women have severe symptoms in this period. Menses start at the age of 12 years and stops at the age of 50 years. The whole process is natural phase of life.

  •    Irregular periods with excessive  or scanty bleeding.
  • Hot flushes
  • Night sweats
  • Vaginal dryness and itching
  • Mood swings
  • Joint pain
  • Sleeplessness
  • Lassitude
  • Excessive hair fall

  • Wrinkles in skin etc
How to prevent:

1.  Consumption of godhuma(wheat), old rice, green gram, green leafy vegetables, fresh seasonal fruits, ghee, nuts, milk etc

2.  Regular medicated oil massage and exposure to mild sunlight

3.  Practice social and good conduct

4.  Regular exercise, yoga and meditation

5.  Use of  rasayana drugs

6.  Control blood pressure and cholestrol levels

7.  Avoid heavy and wholesome food, excess pungent, salty and sour food items

8.  Avoid excessive physical exertion


   
Is Treatment Required?

If the symptoms are mild and managed with lifestyle changes such as irregular oil massage for stress and body ache, treatment is not required.
                     But in severe symptoms such as heavy bleeding with clots, severe stress, depression, excessive sweating etc, then treatment will be required.

Family support:



 Much care should be taken towards the women. Especially family members like husband, children and in laws should take special care towards her health and mindset. Family members should know that the harmonal imbalance causes changes in body and mind of the woman during particular age. Daring conversations and discussions, enough care should be taken and not to hurt her.

Active Lifestyle, exercise, hobbies: 


The woman should wisely engage her in one or the other activity to keep her busy. It will engage her body and mind which is very important for physical and mental health. Reading books, social service, interaction with family and friends ,listening to music, mind games wiyh family members or members of ladies club etc are few ways to keep the mind occupied. Early morning walk for 15-20 minutes, outdoor games, charitable works, good habits like knitting, doll making, weaving etc give enough exercise to body too.

Pranayama, Oil Massage



It helps to keep mental balance. Women will be better equipped to handle mood swings and stress.
           Ostreo arthiritis, depleted calcium and bone strength are common symptoms after menopause. Hence regular oil massage with Maha Narayana taila is really useful in headache, bodyache, sleeping problems, arthiritis, joint pain. Oil massage everyday is the best option. If not, at least once or twice a week. It can be done yourself or at center.

Ayurvedic Treatment :

Between 40-50 years, both pitta and vata are aggrevated, so measures shoulf be taken to pacify both vata and pitta dosha.

Ayurvedic Medicines:

Do not use these medicines for self meditation/treatment. Consult doctor for right advice.

Pushyanuga churna used in Ayurvedic treatment of excessive menstrual bleeding of various etiology.

Ashokarishta is used in treatment of many diseases like pain menstruation, heavy periods, fever, bleeding disorders etc.

 Patrangasava is used in heavy periods, leucorrhea, fever etc.

Ashwagandharishta is used in treatment of fatigue, stress, mood disorders etc.

Jeerakarishta is used in digestive disorders, IBS, low strength.

Balarishta is used in neurological condition, vata disorders, muscular and joint pain and weakness.

Chandraprabha vati is used in Ayurveda treatment of urinary tract infection, difficulty in urination. It helps to relieve constipation, bloating, abdominal pain, lower back pain.

Effective Home Remedies

  • Equal quantity of cumin seeds and fenugreek powder (50 gm) and each is to be fried in 50 gms of ghee. Then powder it well. 50 gm of jaggery has to be added to it and powdered well. This is made into laddu of 10 gm each. Daily 1-2 laddus should be taken along with lukewarm milk. This helps to prevent the trace elemental deficiency caused during menopause.
  • 5 gms of groundnut, cashew nut, sesame seeds, jaggery or honey and ginger powder each are to be taken and powder well. This semisolid mass is taken along with warm water early in the morning. This restores vitality and energy and prevents fatigue and other symptoms commonly found during menopause.
Menopause is a natural biological cycle that every woman has to be go through
 It marks the permanent end to monthly period and is confirmed when a woman has no periods for 12 months in a row. Have prior knowledge about the symptoms of menopause and be mentally prepared.
